First Time Modelling a Weapon
SPECILISM - MODULE #3
Specialism Project.
For this project, I've decided to make a revolver inspired by Call of Duty Modern Warfare (Remastered). 2016. [PlayStation, Xbox one, Microsoft Windows]. Activision, particularly the "Boss Skin" variants of the Melette weapons and Red Dead Redemption (any edition). 2010. PlayStation [Game]. Rockstar Games, ak tronic Software & Services GmbH.
As they have a whole range of revolver guns that I can get ideas from. While working on my own revolver design, I was particularly inspired by Sathwika Vadicherla, a renowned character artist who creates impressive visuals for student games. Their attention to detail and mastery in crafting unique gun skins featuring intricate Celtic and medieval patterns had an impact on my decision to create my own revolver with similar design elements.
For this project, I've set my task on specializing in props. I'm keen on improving my modelling and texturing abilities, and props provide the perfect challenge for that. From weapons, tools, to furniture and décor, they add depth to the gameplay and narrative. Weapons are a key element in games and play a big role in making them feel immersive and fun. Good firearm designs give players lots of cool tactical choices, and they help make the virtual world feel realistic. I have never modelled a weapon before so this will be a good challenge for me to take as a 3D artist. I have set a max tri count for 17,000 excluding the engravings, and a max resolution of 2K for my textures. All engravings has been done on Autodesk Maya using the 'Quad draw' tool which is a long process but I really enjoy using it.
